Creating a Contract

This page shows you how to use the current contract wizard to create a draft contract record.

Product: VerityLaw
Module: Contracts
Role: Legal operator, contract manager, administrator
Difficulty: Beginner
Time: 5 to 10 minutes
Last Updated: 2026-03-10
Version: Current repo baseline

Before You Start

  • Sign in to the dashboard.
  • Know which contract type you need.
  • Have the counterparty name ready before you start the wizard.

What is this task?

This task creates a draft contract using the current four-step wizard. It is a real create flow, but the visible wizard is still narrow: it only captures contract type, counterparty name, and optional counterparty email before creating the record.

When do you use this?

Use this task when you need to start a new contract record and get it into the contracts area quickly. Use it with care if you expect a full clause questionnaire, because that is not what the visible wizard currently provides.

Where do you find it?

Start from: /dashboard/contracts
Create route: /dashboard/contracts/new
Button on dashboard page: New Contract
Review route after save: /dashboard/contracts/[id]

Important current-state note

The wizard shows four steps:

  1. Contract Type
  2. Parties
  3. Details
  4. Review

In the current UI, step 3 only displays placeholder guidance. It does not show contract-specific questions yet.

How to create the contract

  1. Open /dashboard/contracts.
  2. Click New Contract.
  3. On Contract Type, click the card for one of these options:
    • Non-Disclosure Agreement
    • Service Agreement
    • Privacy Policy
    • Terms & Conditions
  4. Click Next.
  5. On Parties, enter Counterparty Name. This is required.
  6. Enter Counterparty Email if you have it.
  7. Click Next.
  8. On Details, read the note on screen. The page currently shows a placeholder area and the selected contract type, not a completed questionnaire.
  9. Click Next.
  10. On Review, confirm the visible summary for:
    • Type
    • Counterparty
    • Email
  11. Click Generate Contract.
  12. Wait for the app to redirect you to the contract detail page.

What should you verify on the contract page?

After creation, the detail page is the current review screen. Confirm the new contract shows:

  • A generated title based on contract type and counterparty name
  • Status
  • Contract Content
  • Parties
  • Jurisdiction
  • Version History

The detail page also shows a Send for Signature button for draft contracts, but it is disabled in the current UI.

What if something looks wrong?

"I expected detailed contract questions, but the wizard does not ask them"

Why this happens: The current Details step is placeholder content only.

Fix: Complete the available steps and treat the record as an initial draft, not a finished negotiated document.

"I need to send the contract for signature immediately"

Why this happens: The contract detail page currently shows Send for Signature as disabled.

Fix: Do not document or promise e-signature from this route yet. Check Checking What Is Live, Partial, or Still Missing before making commitments.
