Creating a Client

This page shows you how to add a client organisation using the current VerityLaw client-create screen.

Before You Start

  • Sign in to the dashboard.
  • Confirm that the organisation does not already exist on the client list.
  • Have the organisation details ready before you open the form.

What is this task?

This task creates a client organisation record. In the current dashboard, that means completing the New Client form and returning to the Clients list.

When do you use this?

Use this task when a new organisation must be added before case work, contracts, billing, or privacy records can be linked to it. If the organisation already exists, do not create a duplicate.

Where do you find it?

Start from: /dashboard/clients
Create route: /dashboard/clients/new
Button on list page: New Client
Review route after save: /dashboard/clients

How to create the client record

  1. Open /dashboard/clients.
  2. Click New Client.
  3. In Organisation Details, complete:
    • Organisation Name. This is required.
    • Registration Number if you have it.
    • VAT Number if you have it.
    • Industry if known.
    • Organisation Size if known.
  4. In Address, complete any details you have for:
    • Street Address
    • City
    • Province
    • Postal Code
    • Country. The form starts with South Africa.
  5. In Contact Information, complete any details you have for:
    • Phone
    • Email
    • Website
    • Notes
  6. Click Create Client.
  7. Wait for the form to return you to /dashboard/clients.
  8. Confirm the organisation now appears in the Clients table.

What should you verify on the list page?

After save, the Clients page is the current review screen. Confirm that the new row appears with the correct:

  • Name
  • Industry
  • Size
  • Cases

What if something looks wrong?

"The form rejected the email or website"

Why this happens: The visible form validates email and URL format.

Fix: Correct the value to a valid format or leave the optional field blank, then submit again.

"I need to open a matter, not just the organisation"

Why this happens: Clients and cases are separate records in the current dashboard.

Fix: Create the organisation first, then follow Opening a Case.
