Choosing the Right VerityLaw Workspace

Before You Start

  • Know the job you are trying to do.
  • Know whether you are internal staff or a client.
  • Know whether you need to create records or only view shared information.

What is a workspace?

A workspace is the version of VerityLaw you are supposed to use for your role. In real life, think of it like the difference between the back office and the client-facing reception area. They are part of the same business, but they do not let you do the same jobs.

In the current docs baseline, the main workspaces are:

  • dashboard for internal staff work
  • portal for client and external stakeholder work

Legacy admin and law surfaces still exist in the repo, but the main user-manual baseline should not pretend they are the default day-to-day experience unless your environment proves otherwise.

When do you use this page?

Use this page whenever you are unsure where a task belongs. If you choose the wrong workspace, you will either not see the screen you need or you will try to do an internal job from a client-facing page.

Where do you make the choice?

Primary decision:

  • Internal operations -> dashboard
  • Client-facing activity -> portal
  • Legacy admin or law only -> use them if your team specifically deployed or trained those surfaces

How to choose the correct workspace

  1. If you need to create or manage internal records, start in dashboard.
  2. If you are a client or external stakeholder, start in portal.
  3. If your team has explicitly enabled and trained you on a legacy admin or law surface, validate the route first before assuming parity with the dashboard app.
  4. If your task involves trust, billing administration, documents, clients, privacy records, contracts, governance, or administration, do not start in the portal.

Who usually works where

Administrator

Use dashboard, especially the Administration, Governance, and operational route groups.

Information Officer

Use dashboard, mainly the Privacy & Compliance group plus related governance and administration routes.

Legal or Compliance Operator

Usually starts in dashboard. Portal is only for externally shared activity. Legacy law use is environment-specific.

Client or External Stakeholder

Use portal only.

What if you are still unsure?

"I am staff, but someone sent me a portal link"

Why this happens: Portal links are real, but they are not the internal operations console.

Fix: Go back to dashboard unless your task is specifically client-facing review.

"I can see an old admin or law link in a project note, but it does not match my current screen"

Why this happens: The repo contains multiple surfaces. The current docs baseline is the main dashboard app plus portal.

Fix: Check Finding the Right VerityLaw Screen and use the /dashboard or /portal route unless your environment explicitly says otherwise.
